Blog #7 NASHVILLE NORTH PART #1 The Beginning

One day I ended up getting a call from someone telling me a new Country bar will be opening up in Georgetown and he gave my name as a Dj and they would be stopping in to see me at the Mavis Restaurant where I was playing. Well here we are that Friday night and having a blast with dancing when in walk 5 guys dress to a T. Well it was obvious it was them. They stayed about an hour and when they got up to leave one came over and passed me a card and asked me to phone them.
It was the start of a fantastic relationship with the owners of Nashville North. One that lasted for years and we brought so many bands in. Everything from Country to rock. We launched many Country Artist’s Careers. So here are a few stories but first I will never forget opening night. The place was Packed. Over 900 people and here I was going on Stage and wow I was nervous because I knew many Radio Stations, Record Labels, Artists, and other important industry people would be there. I had sheets and there I was for days practicing what I was going to say on stage. However once I went on stage I froze. Everything I had memorized for days I completely forgot, cause I was in shock of the amount of people that showed up. I remember the owner just saying just do your best and don’t read off the sheet. Just be you. So I did with no notes and the night was a huge success. It was the beginning of an era that would last for years.

I need to say this!! The owners of Nashville North were great people and Eddie along with his kids Natalie and Anthony ran the bar. I was the DJ and Entertainment Director. Darrell was the soundman and he made everything happen. He knew people in the industry and we always had the BEST up to date Sound System and Light show there was to have. “Oh” and he Darrell made me sound great DJing. Eddie the owner always loved new ideas and had agreed on any kind of LIVE music except Saturdays as that was left for the crowd to come out and line dance and couple dances. So we started doing Live Music every Fridays and it could be anything from Classic Rock to Blues and to Country. and Sometimes we’d do the same on Sundays. Thursdays were Z-103.5 with Scott Fox and DJ Marky Dee and Wednesday was Line Dance teach night. Also the Security we had were a great bunch of guys and they all tried to make Nashville North a safe place to have fun but hey sometimes you get some real jerks when people are drinking and they get out of hand. The boys were great in keeping things calm. To this day we are all still friends and catch up every once in a while and talk about the great times we had at Nashville North.
